Abstract
In Europe, knowledge of the   language of the host society is increasingly becoming a necessary condition   for the integration of migrants into their country of arrival, whether it is   to enter the country, to obtain permission for permanent residence or to   acquire citizenship. A large number of European countries are thus   implementing different language training policies sanctioned by tests. Comparative   surveys conducted in 2007 and 2009 by the Council of Europe provide further   information.
