Description
The SMILE network aims to support the European and national language policies through researching, identifying and spreading the successful results of good practices for promoting linguistic diversity with particular focus on the learning of Less-Widely Used and Taught Languages (LWUTLs).
The   purpose of the Situational Analysis is to present the up-to-date findings of   the SMILE network regarding the LWUTLs (less widely used and taught   languages) learning needs related to labour market and social inclusion in 15 European countries represented in this project - Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech   Republic, Finland, Germany, Greece, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey. It provides information about the needs related to LWUTLs of the identified sectors on European level   and solutions for meeting them through non-traditional methodologies applied   for situational language learning and promotion.
The Analysis also focuses on the national language policies and practices in   partner countries both in the formal and non-formal education and gives an overview of the existing linguistic diversity. Then follows the presentation of the main sectors identified by SMILE as likely to benefit most from the project outcomes as well as an outline of the collection of good practices, their practical application in the identified sectors in partner countries as   well as successful methodologies and approaches for learning and promotion of LWUTLs. The section ends with an overview of the most widely used ways and methods for learning and promotion of LWUTLs supported with these proposed by SMILE network as the most effective for social and market inclusion.
